Official Apex Reviews Interview: Donald Allen Kirch (Manchester House)

Apex Reviews: Thanks for joining us for this interview, Donald. We're looking forward to sharing more about your book with our readers.

Donald Allen Kirch: Thank you!

AR: Where did you get the idea to craft this quite imaginative suspense thriller?

DAK: Manchester House was unique...with this book, I based most of it on an event that I had actually experienced.  In short: I was attacked by a ghost.

AR: Did you perform considerable research prior to crafting the story?

DAK: To a certain extent.  I went around with some real life "ghost hunters" hoping to gain some insight on how they perform an investigation.

As stated above, my personal views for "ghosts" was instantly changed, when I had been attacked by one.  I was doing research with a group of "ghost hunters" who were investigating a local haunted house.  This house was in Atchison, Kansas, and was called the "Sallie House."  Very famous.  The house has been featured in several haunted house documentaries, as well as the Fox TV series "Sightings."

While at this investigation, I was coming down a set of stairs -- there was NO ONE around me...I felt "something" grab my ankles and pull, and then grab my shoulders and push.  After I recovered, I left the house and never returned.  Whatever it was, it convinced me to leave.  The primal fear of not knowing what it was, or its motivations will be with me until I pass on.  In all my life I have never been that frightened.

AR: Our reviewer commented on how you manage to weave snippets of real, practical history throughout the pages of the tale. Was this a difficult task for you to pull off?

DAK: Not really.  I make the history as accurate as I can, in order to help add realism to the story.  Atchison, Kansas, where the story takes place, is a historical town.  It is also listed as the "Most Haunted Town in Kansas."

AR: Likewise, was it a challenge for you to maintain the suspense of the story - without giving away too much too soon?

DAK: Absolutely!  That is the reason behind the historic tales, victims, and their fates.  They help keep the reader entertained.  It also is a plus to have likable and colorful characters, which add their flavor to the pot.

AR: You have become quite the prolific author. Please share more with our readers about your other writings.

DAK: I write Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Horror.

My first novel "Still Waters" is quite possibly the only horror novel which takes place on board the Titanic.  It was based upon an old newspaper article I had found, which stated that the ill-fated ship was the victim of a mummy's curse, NOT an iceberg.

My second novel, and MY PERSONAL FAVORITE is entitled "The Christ Project."  It is a science fiction novel, in which the earth has suffered a terrible thirty-year war.  After the war, religion is blamed for the cause, and is later outlawed by the governing body, which turns out to be The United Nations.  So, in order to break "The New World Order" an ex- Catholic Bishop digs up the Holy Shroud of Turin, and decides to clone the body of Christ.  Good stuff!

I have a fantasy novel coming out early this spring entitled "The Misadventures of Ka-Ron the Knight."  But, that's ANOTHER interview!

AR: How do you manage to find the time to write and publish as often as you do?

DAK: I borrowed the writing habits of Stephen King.  I write everyday, with the exception of Christmas and my Birthday.  I try to get down at least five pages a day -- ten if I am real lucky.

AR: What are your future writing/publishing aspirations?

DAK: I would VERY Much like to obtain a literary agent at this juncture of my career.  If at all possible, I would prefer signing with an American publisher -- a big league imprint.  I have done as much as I can on my own.  Any agents out there looking for a client??

AR: Do you have a website where our readers can learn more about you and your ongoing efforts?

DAK: Yes!

Any of these can be used to contact me.

AR: How can they contact you directly?

AR: Any final thoughts you'd like to share?

DAK: Yes!  The attention you guys give to struggling authors who are just starting out, is absolutely fantastic.  I thank you all for both your time and valuable consideration.

AR: Thanks again, Donald, and best of continued success to you in all your endeavors!

DAK: Thank you!  God bless. :-)
