GRACIE C. MCKEEVER is an author from the Bronx who has lived and worked her entire life in the New York City area. She has been writing since the age of seven, when two younger brothers were among her earliest captive audience for various short story readings and performances.
An eclectic and voracious reader, she's had the great fortune of being able to incorporate two of her favorite passions and talents – reading and writing – as a book reviewer for several online e-zines, both as a regular staff member and freelancer.
Her short stories, novellas, and poetry have seen exposure in various lit and art magazines, as well as other venues – both online and in print. She's also a proud member of the Street News family and has seen numerous articles, poems, and novel excerpts published within its pages.
In 2001, Gracie caught the erotic bug, sinking her teeth into her first erotic romance e-book for a review - and she hasn't looked back since. An instant affinity for the genre spawned her first erotic romance title, Beneath The Surface, which was published in 2006 by Siren Publishing, Inc. She has since gone on to publish a plethora of titles, all to considerable acclaim.
Official Apex Reviews Interview: Gracie C. McKeever (Sexual Healing For Three)
Apex Reviews: Thanks for joining us for this interview, Gracie. We're looking forward to sharing more about your book with our readers.
Gracie C. McKeever: Thanks for having me, Apex! I’m looking forward to discussing my book with your readers.
AR: What inspired you to pen this quite compelling literary thrill ride?
GCM: I’m glad you think of it as a thrill ride. As for what inspired it, there were several inspirations at work. I had tackled the issue of domestic abuse and violence in a couple of my other books, but had never gone as in depth as I do in Sexual Healing for Three. I liked the idea of bringing this growing problem more into the spotlight, but didn’t want to lose the immediacy of the other issues in the story (i.e., the bdsm and interrelationship between the two heroes and the heroine). Having the heroine be a domestic abuse survivor in a career that daily deals with other survivors served the purpose. Also, there is the issue of the two brothers being survivors of domestic abuse and how they handle their own emotions and insecurities while dealing with the heroine’s. As you can imagine, the heroine finds it difficult to reconcile her desire for physical discipline and to be physically dominated by the heroes after her past experience with domestic abuse.
AR: Are any of the characters based on people you know or have known in real life?
GCM: Not specifically, per se, no. As is usually the case in my books, the characters are a composite of several people—real and imagined. I do know people who have been victims of domestic abuse (myself included). The bdsm and ménage elements are total products of my imagination.
AR: For those who may not know, exactly what is Wicca?
GCM: It’s an alternate name for the religion of neo-Pagan witchcraft. Many Witches prefer to call themselves Wiccans rather than Witches and say they practice Wicca, rather than Witchcraft as the terms “Witch” and “Witchcraft” carry negative connotations.
AR: How do you always manage to craft such inventive, imaginative plotlines?
GCM: Thanks for your kind words! The characters help me a lot. Specifically, since my stories are usually more character-driven than plot-driven, the characters’ goals, needs and wants are what decide what direction and how the story goes. I might give the characters a push now and then in the right direction, but in the end, it’s up to them to decide whether they want to go.
AR: What kinds of reactions have readers had to the book thus far?
GCM: The reactions thus far have overall been positive.
AR: Please share more with our readers about your publisher, Siren Publishing.
Gracie: Siren is a publisher of erotic romance novels and have been in existence since, I think, about 2005. I, along with a handful of other authors have been with them from their beginnings. They’ve been on a steady climb since they’ve opened, branching out into distributing with their Siren-Bookstrand endeavors and have several lines including Rapture and Ménage Amour, the latter being very successful as readers’ cravings for multiple partner relationships grows. Siren is a great publisher to work with, very author friendly and progressive.
AR: What's next for you?
GCM: I have another ménage a trois release, the first book in a trilogy, out under a pseudonym that, for now, is a secret. I have another upcoming release, another ménage a trois story under another, for now, secret pseudonym. I’m working on a paranormal erotic romance series involving angels, but I’m dealing with the divinities from an Eastern angle rather than the Christian/Western angle that we’re all accustomed to and my angels are called devas (pronounced dey-vas). The series name is Protector Devas. Series Blurb/Premise: Clusters of the psychically gifted straggled throughout the East and West Coasts become endangered species when it is discovered their devic essence may hold the key to victory in a centuries-old, ever-escalating war between powerful celestial and demonic factions.
