Shae Byrts is the girl that the other females from the projects love to hate. With a banging body that has every man turning his head, she exudes the confidence that most females only wish they had. Looks can be deceiving, though, because the confidence that shows on the exterior only masks the hell she is going through at home.
Shae's mother is an abusive alcoholic who has no qualms about beating her children. Meanwhile, her live-in grandmother can't stand to see her grandkids hurt by their mother, so she tries to take a stand. Shae is determined to find a way out of the projects, even if it means putting away some money from her drug-dealing boyfriend - who is controlling and abusive himself. Soon she realizes that all that glitters is not gold, and, when her family life begins to spiral out of control and her controlling boyfriend takes it too far, Shae is in for the fight of her life to save herself and her siblings.
Project Queen is a fast-paced read that will leave you flabbergasted. Fiction author T.D. Patterson has skillfully penned a novel that all teenage girls should read, doing an excellent job of portraying the pain and abuse of a young girl determined to find a way out of the projects. An important lesson that young women should take away from her story is that they should really think about the potential consequences of their actions before they jump into something that looks good on the outsideā¦more than likely, what looks good to you is not necessarily good for you.
Highly recommended to teenage girls because of its underlying message of hope.
