Morgan Daniels-Foster comes from money – and not just any old kind of money either: the money she comes from has money of its own to burn. Such is the life that's been provided to her by the inimitable Jernell Foster, matriarch of the Foster family empire, whose interests seemingly span the globe, commanding equal amounts of respect and fear. With stunning looks to match her high-powered family connections, Morgan is more than ready to strike out on her own as she begins a new life as a freshman at nearby Bradley University. Despite all the privileges that her affluent upbringing have afforded her, though, Morgan still longs for two very important things she's never been able to obtain: a strong sense of self, and, of course, true love.

Noah Stephens has been fitted for the cloth for as long as he can remember. The son of an influential minister, his path toward joining the family ministry appears set. Growing up without the typical advantages of a family with considerable material success, Noah's empathetic heart remains fixed on doing the best he can to serve the Lord by being a blessing to those in need…of course, his heart also longs to find his own way of going about fulfilling his divine destiny in life – as well as learning precisely what that destiny is. Going into his freshman year at Bradley University, Noah seeks the answers to these questions, at the same time discovering more about the nature of his true self – and his family's real past.

When their widely divergent paths serendipitously cross, neither Morgan nor Noah are prepared for the onslaught of emotion, pain, and drama soon to follow. Unable to fight the powerful attraction between them, the two star-crossed lovers remain bound to one another as they each face unimaginable strife, shock, and ultimate loss in the wake of the unearthing of long-held family secrets. Only time will tell if their bond is strong enough to survive the coming trials that will test their very souls.

The follow up effort to her highly successful debut, Keeping Misery Company, The Legacies promises to be just as much of a hit with Michelle Larks' ever-growing legion of readers. Masterful storyteller that she is, in Legacies Larks has re-fashioned the ages-old Romeo & Juliet tale with a modern-day, urban twist. Brought together by forces greater than themselves, Noah and Morgan both contend with seemingly unending family drama and despair, and the two youths, in turn, rely on a strength that exceeds their own in order to cope with the incessant cycles of tribulation. With each new startling revelation, the reader will begin to wonder just how the young lovers are able to remain the picture of relative calm during the storm while everyone else around them loses their minds – and nearly everything else – as times grow increasingly tough.

Also, enough cannot be said about Larks' incomparable ability to weave an intricate, multi-layered tale, perfectly preserving suspense while tantalizing readers with just enough heat to keep them turning page after page, eagerly anticipating what's to come next. In addition, she's able to humanize a salacious tale of greed, power, and sex by relating the real effects of their consequences on the hearts and minds of those caught up in their mix. Such ability is truly a gift, and not one that many authors both possess and wield so skillfully.

The Legacies, rightly so, will go down as yet another instant classic from a proven author whose time has truly come. No matter how many fans Michelle Larks has won over with her writing efforts thus far, those numbers will quickly dwarf in comparison to the soon-to-be-converted as her literary legend continues to grow.

Official Apex Reviews Interview: Michelle Larks (The Legacies)

Apex Reviews: Michelle, thanks for joining us for this interview. We're looking forward to learning more about your book.

Various elements of the book are very creative and ingenious in nature. Where do you draw your inspiration from?

Michelle Larks: My inspiration comes from the story in my head. An idea will pop into my mind, and I'll run straight to my PC and write until the story has been completed. On occasion, a few people have suggested storylines that I've been able to incorporate in my stories.

AR: Without giving too much away, how is it that the women in the Foster family are appointed as the leaders of the family empire - and not the men?

ML: Being a baby boomer, I've always felt that women are more than capable than men of being in charge - except for physical limitations. I also thought it would add a great twist to the storyline.

AR: A young, African American man of Noah's moral fortitude seems to be an increasing rarity in contemporary times. Is it your belief that young Black men are, as a character in your book mentions, "an endangered species"?

ML: I'd like to think that there are more Noah Stephens in the world than we're aware of. Being a sensationalized-driven society, negative sells more than positive. These young men could be our sons, nephews, cousins, or friends of friends. We just don't hear as much about them.

AR: Our reviewer noted that you have great skill in maintaining suspense throughout your multi-layered storylines. Is it difficult to do so without giving away too much too soon?

ML: Truthfully, until I read the first draft of a manuscript, I am unaware of all the multiple storylines. Then I think to myself, your mind was all over the place.

AR: How do you craft your stories? Do you prepare outlines regarding your characters & plot developments first, or is it more natural for you to write as the inspiration hits you?

ML: Generally I let the storyline flow. I do make notes of my characters' names, ages, physical attributes, occupations, etc., for future reference.

AR: Your debut effort, Keeping Misery Company, continues to garner widespread acclaim. Has the incredible success of your writings sunken in yet?

ML: No, it hasn't sunk in yet. I am still amazed when I read a review of Keeping Misery Company or talk to a reader, and it takes a minute for me to realize they are talking about me and my book. I am blessed and honored at how well Keeping Misery Company was received by the reading and literary community.

AR: Please share more with our readers about your experience thus far with Urban Christian Books.

ML: My experience thus far with Urban Christian Books has been a positive one. I feel honored and blessed to work with our gifted editor, Joylynn Jossel. The Urban Christian authors have been supportive of each other like family.

AR: What's next for you?

ML: My next book with Urban Christian Books will be released in July of 2009. It's entitled Til Debt Do Us Part. I had a lot of fun writing that book.

AR: Where can people learn more about you, your writings, and your other efforts?

ML: People can find me on the web at www.MichelleLarks.com and www.myspace.com/michellelarks.

AR: Also, how can our readers contact you directly?

ML: Readers can contact me at michelle.larks@comcast.net

AR: Any final thoughts you'd like to share?

ML: Yes, I'd like to close by saying I will do my best to provide readers with thought-provoking books with a touch of spirituality. Thank you, Apex Reviews, it's been a pleasure!

AR: Thanks again, Michelle, and best of continued success to you in all your endeavors!
